Take my survey on culture shock vs. reverse culture shock!
Hello folks! If you studied abroad, or took an extended stay in a country other than your home country and then returned... I'd love to hear from you!
Please take a moment to answer my survey, (click here!) which is very brief, and tracks whether or not people are experiencing culture shock, reverse culture shock, or both!
I am curious about this dimension of the intercultural experience , and I'm hoping to start a discussion about how these feelings can be kept in check so that the community of international students and young expats can continue feeling their best during their journeys abroad. Engaging with a new culture in a foreign land can be difficult, yet assimilating back into a routine after an adventure can be just as awful. So, I'm interested to hear from you all to learn about how people are coping.
(My dear friend, the author of @winewordsandwanderlust captures the feelings of reverse culture shock quite perfectly and comically in this article she penned for The Odyssey Online--> here!)
Feel free to leave comments about your experiences below; perhaps others have shared your experiences and have tips or tricks on how to overcome this. I will curate some of the responses and share in another post in my study abroad tips section very soon!
